WORK & STUDY CENTRE FOR THE CHILDREN

“That education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being.” – Dr. Maria Montessori

Dr. Montessori used the term ErdKinder, which literally stands for “Children of the Earth”, to describe adolescents who are preparing to enter the larger, global community.

Erdkinder provides a unique educational experience for middle to higher secondary school students, blending elements of more conventional academics with a learning environment based on the principles of Montessori education. The Erdkinder program at VMI is offered for the 12-to-18-year old’s in line with NIOS, IGCSE and CCS based on the board chosen by the children and parents.

Our Erdkinder program is structured into two levels of multi-age groupings.

  • Lower Erdkinder: 12-15 year olds (7th, 8th, and 9th grades)
  • Upper Erdkinder: 15-18 year olds (10th, 11th, and 12th grades)

The Erdkinder Program rekindles the spirit of the adolescent and assists the young adult in transforming into global citizens. The Program gave adolescents the opportunity to move out into the community by learning how to work. It engages the adolescents in all aspects of farm management, administration, and economic interdependence. It assists the young adult in the understanding of oneself in wider and wider frames of reference. It opens meaningful interactions with the society and gives them an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the society. It provides a context for practical application of academics. The Erdkinder program emphasizes the development of self-expression, true self-reliance, and agility in interpersonal relationships. program. It serves as an academic guide for the program and students appear for the Grade 10 and 12 exams during the Erdkinder program.

“The essential reform is this: to put the adolescent on the road to achieving economic independence . We might call it a “school of experience in the elements of social life.
